Nearly two-dozen juveniles housed at the Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center in Golden, Colorado could face criminal charges after they barricaded themselves in the orientation building for about an hour on December 30. The disturbance started about 11 p.m. when the boys began overturning bunk beds and breaking light fixtures, said Liz McDonough, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Human Services. The incident, which she said caused minimal damage, is still under investigation. Initial reports indicate that a few of the boys were angry that one of their favorite staff members no longer worked there, McDonough said. 'We believe there were two or three ringleaders,' McDonough said. Several units from the Golden Police Department, the Jefferson County
Sheriff's Office and the Colorado School of Mines responded with riot gear and a canine unit of German shepherds. |
