Freed Okla. Inmate Files New Lawsuit Against Officials

A man who spent 15 years in prison for a sexual assault that a DNA test proved he didn't commit filed a new lawsuit Wednesday against those he believes are responsible for his incarceration.
In his lawsuit, Jeffrey Pierce named former police chemist Joyce Gilchrist, Oklahoma City Police Chief M.T. Berry, and former Oklahoma County District Attorney Bob Macy.
Pierce, who was convicted of rape in 1986, was freed after DNA tests of semen proved he did not commit the crime.
An Oklahoma County jury convicted Pierce based on the victim's mistaken identification and from the testimony of Gilchrist, whose work is the subject of state and federal investigations.
The lawsuit claims Gilchrist knew that hair found at the 1996 crime scene did not match his, but testified against Pierce anyway.
A judge dismissed portions of lawsuit filed earlier by Pierce. The lawsuit filed Wednesday seeks at least $10 million in damages.

Do you know someone who has been arrested in Waco or McLennan County? It’s important to find a good Waco lawyer to represent you in the matter involving your own liberty. Look for the best Waco lawyer that you can find. Whether you have been accused rightly or wrongly, it’s important to know your legal rights that concern whether you go to jail.
