A repentant condemned killer was executed in Texas last week. Just prior to his lethal injection, Larry Allen Hayes told relatives of one of his two victims that he was 'genuinely sorry' for what he did, and hoped for forgiveness. Hayes said there was 'no good answer' for the 1999 shootings in which his wife and a convenience store employee died. The 54-year-old inmate told several friends who were also present that he loved them, and thanked them for sticking with him. A teary-eyed Hayes also thanked the officer who arrested him and gave him C-P-R just after he had been shot in a confrontation with police. Hayes said in a shaky voice, 'He kept me alive and gave me a chance to get my life right.' Hayes, who had requested the punishment, was the 21st inmate put to death this year in Texas. |
