An escaped Delaware prisoner on the lam for three weeks has been captured in Arkansas after allegedly robbing two motels along a busy interstate and leading police on a brief high-speed chase, authorities said Wednesday. Myron D. Price, 28, was caught late Tuesday by Benton, Ark., police just outside of Little Rock after officers spotted a Mazda Protege suspected in the motel robberies, authorities said. Police arrested Price after he turned onto a dead-end street off I-30 about 11 p.m., said Lt. Michael Kassel of the Benton police. Officers found a small amount of suspected marijuana, a pellet handgun, a dreadlock wig and more than $6,000 in cash inside the car. Officials in Delaware learned of the arrest Wednesday and announced Price's capture in an afternoon press conference. Price escaped Dec. 16 while being transported from the Sussex Correctional Institution near Georgetown to the Kent County Courthouse in Dover. During the nearly hourlong ride, he used some type of paper clip to free himself from his handcuffs and leg shackles, authorities said. Price was serving an eight-year sentence for cocaine trafficking and was headed to court that morning to face charges he committed five armed liquor store robberies dating back to early last year. When the two correctional officers transporting Price and 12 other inmates opened the door to the prison van, the shackles fell off Price and he ran. The Tuesday night armed robberies of the two hotels on I-30 in Hope and Caddo Valley, Ark, ultimately led to Price's capture, officials said. Price is facing aggravated robbery and other charges in Arkansas, where he was being held Wednesday, and may face other charges in Mississippi. Taylor said officials in Delaware will seek extradition, but don't know how long that will take because he is accused of crimes in other jurisdictions. If and when he returns to Delaware, Taylor said, Price will face charges of escape, conspiracy and theft. |
