A female while in custody at the Bradley County Justice Center in Tenn. has accused two of her cell mates of a sexual assault on her. The victim stated that while in custody at the Bradley County Justice Center on Dec. 17, she was sexually assaulted with an object by two female cell mates. The two women named were Melissa Walden and Dayna Ladmirault. An investigation was conducted into the accusations and the two subjects were charged with aggravated rape. Police said the incident was not reported immediately. The victim sought medical attention the next day but did not tell officials then. It was only after several days and she was still experiencing health issues and sent to another doctor that officials were notified. Sheriff Dan Gilley said, "The day this assault was reported, I initiated a full criminal investigation by our special investigations unit, and felony charges were placed against two individuals before the day was out. "Any assault reported to us that allegedly occurs in the jail is taken very seriously. All reports of this nature are thoroughly investigated, and criminal charges are placed against the aggressors whenever it is appropriate. "An internal investigation has revealed documentation that verifies regular cell block checks were being made by the corrections staff on the night of this unfortunate incident. The victim was transported for medical treatment the day following the incident, although the nature of her medical needs was not known until several days later when she reported the assault. "Although the victim was in custody when the assault occurred we make no distinction regarding the serious nature of the crime. Our sympathy goes out to the victim and her family, and we will pursue these cases aggressively on her behalf." |
