Two inmates needed medical treatment after a melee involving about two dozen inmates at the Fremont Correctional Facility in Colorado, corrections officials said. ''It's more than likely gang-related,'' Department of Corrections spokeswoman Alison Morgan said Friday. One inmate suffered a broken bone in the face after the fight Thursday, and the other inmate was taken to St. Thomas More Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, Morgan said. She said she could not give more details on the prisoners' conditions. Officials were investigating what caused the violence. Six inmates were segregated after the confrontation broke out about 3:30 p.m. in the exercise yard of the medium-security facility, she said. Inmates were picking up horseshoes as weapons, Morgan said. The fight was under control within a few minutes, she said. |
