| Ala. Officials Transfer More Female Inmates |

The Alabama Department of Corrections has transferred another 70 inmates from Julia Tutwiler Prison to a private lockup in Basile, Louisiana. State Corrections Commissioner Donal Campbell said the department is continuing its efforts to fulfill a federal court order by reducing the inmate population at the Wetumpka prison. The latest transfer occurred yesterday after an initial 70 female prisoners were moved to the Louisiana facility Sunday night. Campbell said he will visit the South Louisiana Correctional Center Wednesday. He also said some personnel from Tutwiler familiar to the inmates will be assigned to LCS to act as permanent on-site monitors. |
