Deputies at Georgia Jail Attacked
By WXIA

Layoffs at the Fulton County Jail could be to blame for a recent incident where three deputies were attacked, prompting concerns over safety at the jail.
Fulton County Sheriff's Department officials released video April 15 of the attack that occurred on March 2.
It showed four jail inmates attacking a jail trustee who was cleaning up after dinner was served. A deputy who tried to break up the fight was also assaulted and suffered a concussion. Later, two other deputies and another jail trustee were injured trying to contain the out-of-control inmates.
In a released statement, Fulton County Sheriff Jackie Barrett said recent budget cuts forced the layoffs of 37 part-time jail employees and the freezing of 11 full-time positions.
Safety operations at the jail are under review but Barrett said they continue to operate with the safety of everyone in mind.
