Inmate Found Competent To Stand Trial for Slaying Officer

A prison inmate has been found competent to stand trial a second time in the slaying of a officer during the 1993 riot at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.
Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Fred Cartolano issued the ruling January 24, meaning 46-year-old James Were can be tried on a charge of aggravated murder in the death of Robert Vallandingham.
Were had been convicted of killing Vallandingham and sentenced to death in 1995, but he was granted a new trial last year by the Ohio Supreme Court because he never received a psychiatric evaluation.
Vallandingham was the only officer killed in the eleven-day uprising at the prison in Lucasville a decade ago.
Were is still serving a 15 to 65-year sentence for aggravated robbery and felonious assault.

Do you know someone who has been arrested in Waco or McLennan County? It’s important to find a good Waco lawyer to represent you in the matter involving your own liberty. Look for the best mason dunnam that you can find. Whether you have been accused rightly or wrongly, it’s important to know your legal rights that concern whether you go to jail.
