Lockdown At Cook County Jail After Fight Injures At Least 10

More than 50 inmates were on lockdown on January 25 inside a maximum-security section of the Cook County Jail, after a fight in which at least 10 inmates were injured, including four seriously.
Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Office were trying to determine the cause of the fight a day earlier in a maximum-security wing, sheriff's office spokesman Bill Cunningham said.
The fight, which broke out in a day room of Division 10 at 1:30 p.m., was over in 'a matter of minutes' and was only between inmates, Cunningham said. No jail workers were reported injured.
Before it was broken up, four men were stabbed in the back with 'jailhouse shanks', homemade knives that inmates can make from filing down plumbing and heating fixtures or plastic eating utensils, Cunningham said.
At the time of the quarrel, at least 48 inmates were in the dayroom, where inmates eat and make telephone calls. Although the cause was still under investigation, Cunningham said, 'These things are frequently gang related.'
Of the men stabbed, two remained at Mount Sinai Hospital early Saturday, a 27-year-old man in critical condition and a 33-year-old in serious condition, according to a nursing supervisor.
Two more stabbing victims, a 21-year-old and a 22-year-old, were both brought to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, an administrator said.
By January 25, younger man's condition had been upgraded to fair, while the other victim remained in serious, another administrator said.
Detectives were currently interviewing all the inmates in the tier to determine who was responsible for the fight, Cunningham said. If the inmates are cooperative and detectives are able to determine who was responsible for the stabbings, charges could be filed as early as next week, he added.
The entire tier would remain on lockdown for several days, Cunningham said. During that time, prisoners would be allowed outside their cells for only one hour a day.

Do you know someone who has been arrested in Waco or McLennan County? It’s important to find a good Waco lawyer to represent you in the matter involving your own liberty. Look for the best mason dunnam that you can find. Whether you have been accused rightly or wrongly, it’s important to know your legal rights that concern whether you go to jail.
