The Daphne City Jail has stopped accepting new inmates until a virus outbreak there has run its course, police said.
About 30 men have reported the illness, which causes vomiting and diarrhea, said Lt. Randy Bishop, the jail's administrator. Bishop said the jail also was holding two female inmates, but neither had fallen ill.
Four inmates went to the hospital January 22, and another went to the doctor earlier that day, but all five were back in jail the next night, Bishop said.
On Thursday, one corrections officer called in sick and a communications officer left work early, but the rest of the staff has been unaffected, he said.
Bishop said doctors told him it should take two to three days before inmates feel better. He switched the inmates' diet to more bland foods and is making sure they get plenty of fluids.
Bishop said he is diverting inmates to the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette and the Fairhope City Jail.

Do you know someone who has been arrested in Waco or McLennan County? It’s important to find a good Waco lawyer to represent you in the matter involving your own liberty. Look for the best mason dunnam that you can find. Whether you have been accused rightly or wrongly, it’s important to know your legal rights that concern whether you go to jail.
