Texas Jailer Accused Of Smuggling Hacksaw Blades To Inmate

A Nueces County jail officer was arrested and indicted on charges that he smuggled illegal materials into the jail to an inmate.
Sheriff's investigators believe 32-year-old Charles Elliott smuggled three hacksaw blades and marijuana into the jail sometime over the last three to four months.
The alleged recipient of the contraband is 28 year old Gabriel Ramos, an inmate, on trial this week on a capital murder charge.
During a January 30 news conference Nueces County Sheriff Larry Olivarez and District Attorney Carlos Valdez announced Elliott had been charged.
Valdez says this type of behavior won't be tolerated, 'Whenever we have anything like this, any indication that people on the right side of the law are involved in criminal wrongdoing we will not only investigate it. We will present it to a grand jury for indictment and we will prosecute it fully.'
Charles Elliott is being held in the Victoria County Jail. According to the Sheriff, that's for Elliott's own protection and to remove him from the site of the investigation.
Gabriel Ramos' defense attorney denies that there is any connection between Elliot and Ramos and says his client has been locked away in isolation.
'My client says he doesn't know him other than as [an officer],' Gilmore said.
Gilmore went on to add that he questions the sheriff calling a press conference and said, 'That's how sheriff's get re-elected I guess.'
As for Ramos' capital murder trial he says it's been affected, 'They had so much security, the jurors are intimidated. They had a dog sitting there. It has to prejudice Mr. Ramos. It has to prejudice Gabe.'

Do you know someone who has been arrested in Waco or McLennan County? It’s important to find a good Waco lawyer to represent you in the matter involving your own liberty. Look for the best gerald villarrial that you can find. Whether you have been accused rightly or wrongly, it’s important to know your legal rights that concern whether you go to jail.
