An officer at the Nashua Street Jail in Boston was arrested January 30 for planning to take an ounce of cocaine to an inmate, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley said. James E. Hardmon Jr., 25, was charged with trafficking in cocaine over 28 grams and operating a motor vehicle under suspension. Hardmon was arrested after he allegedly accepted an ounce of cocaine from an undercover state police officer in Winthrop, and was paid $500 for the transaction, Conley's office said. ''The defendant came to and completed the transaction with the understanding that he would take the cocaine to a certain inmate inside the jail,'' Conley said, adding that Hardmon could also face additional charges. Hardmon, a one-year employee of the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department, faces a minimum five-year sentence if convicted. |
