Maui Community Correctional Center warden Albert Murashige has been arrested on suspicion that he sexually assaulted a female inmate. State Attorney General Mark Bennett issued a brief statement saying Murashige was arrested June 4 by agents from his office and that the investigation is continuing. Maui police say Murashige was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and sexual assault and is being held at the Maui police cellblock. First Deputy Attorney General Richard Bissen Junior says the alleged offense was reported by a female inmate recently and that the agents began investigating the complaint on June 2. He says a decision on whether Murashige will be charged will be made within the 48-hour period of his arrest. Murashige, who's 46, has been warden at the Maui facility for 12 years. He is among the senior wardens in the state's corrections system. |
