| Florida Prison Locked Down After Officer Slashed |

Some 3,400 Salinas Valley State Prison inmates were locked down June 24 after a correctional officer was slashed while escorting a prisoner. The officer -- identified only as M. Denning -- was attacked a day earlier in a housing area of the maximum-security prison. Spokesman Eloy Medina said Denning was slashed on the back of his neck and hands by an unshackled inmate, whose name was not released. Denning's injuries were not considered to be serious. The inmate used a makeshift weapon described as having a pointed two-inch-long tip. A motive was under investigation. |
