| State Supreme Court Upholds Indiana's Sex Offender Registry Law |

The state Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of Indiana's sex offender registry on June 26, including the posting of addresses and pictures of convicted sex offenders on the Internet. The registry should be available soon, since county sheriffs have been collecting the information while the lawsuit advanced through the courts, Attorney General Steve Carter said. The court had put the registry on hold while considering its decision. The Indiana Civil Liberties Union insisted the law would harm the reputation of all past offenders by deeming them forever dangerous without any way to show they are not. But the court said that ''the Legislature has decided that the registry information of all sex offenders currently dangerous or not must be publicly disclosed.'' The state had argued that the recidivism rate among sex offenders is extremely high, and the public had a right to the information and photos on the Internet. The ruling will go far in protecting the public, Carter said. ''It's a resounding, important decision that will benefit families and children,'' he said. The ICLU sued on behalf of a man, known only as ''John Doe'' in court papers, who was convicted several years ago of fondling a minor. Ken Falk, an attorney for the ICLU, said recently he was disappointed with the high court's ruling, but he declined to comment further because he had not seen it. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in March that photos of convicted sex offenders can be posted on the Internet. That ruling was based on a Connecticut case. The ICLU had argued that the Indiana Constitution provides more privacy protections than does the U.S. Constitution, including rights regarding a person's reputation. |

An internal amplifier creates an amplified voltage output and hence the sensor can be connected directly to Speed Sensor and data acquisition systems.
