Third Fla. Prisoner Pleads to Killing Another Inmate

The third of six jail inmates originally charged with second-degree murder in the beating and stomping death of another prisoner has pleaded no contest to a lesser charge.
Jeremiah Samuel Hinsey, 21, will face a 10-year prison sentence as the result of his plea to manslaughter recently in the Oct. 6 death of Chad Littles, 18, at the Bay County Jail Annex.
Investigators said Littles was killed by inmates who mistakenly believed he was an informant.
Hinsey tentatively is set for sentencing Sept. 22. In a deal with prosecutors, he also agreed to testify against the remaining co-defendants: Nicholas Hulsey, 21; Malachi Najair, 25, and Larry K. Burks, 19.
Last month, Carlos King, 31, pleaded no contest to aggravated assault and Ronald Lawson, 25, to felony battery. Both are to receive five-year prison terms after all cases have been resolved.
Littles' mother has sued Corrections Corporation of America Inc., a Nashville, Tenn., company that operates the jail and annex under a contract with Bay County. She claims the company had to few officers on duty, failed to properly train them and lacked proper monitoring equipment. Company officials have denied the allegations.
