A third prison officer at Taycheedah Correctional Institution is being investigated for possible sexual misconduct. The inmate who reported the sexual conduct was branded a liar by prison investigators and placed in solitary confinement, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported in its February 14 editions. The 32-year-old inmate passed a lie-detector test last week regarding her allegation that the officer asked her to expose her breasts and perform oral sex. The officer has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation, authorities said. Steve Casperson, administrator of the state Division of Adult Institutions, said on February 13 at least one other inmate had been questioned about her relationship with the officer. Investigators were also trying to determine whether other officers were aware of the possible sexual contact, he said. The officer is the third to be investigated for possible sexual misconduct with an inmate at Taycheedah since November. One officer was fired and the other resigned. The inmate is at least the fourth to be placed in solitary confinement for having a personal relationship with officer s overseeing them or for trying to report sexual misconduct. Wisconsin is one of only four states that do not specifically ban sexual contact between officer s and inmates. Two attempts to make such contact a felony have failed after the union that represents prison officers opposed the efforts. Casperson said the agency was reviewing their disciplinary policies and changes were expected. |
