Inmate Escapes From Fla. Jail

An inmate from the Orange County (Fla.) Jail remains on the run. Ronald Sylvester escaped from the jail around seven o'clock Sunday night.
To escape, he gained access to the roof at one of the lockdown facilities, jumped and then led police on an all-night manhunt.
The manhunt continues today. Ronald Sylvester, 36, was booked into the Orange County correctional facility last month on grand theft and battery charges. Now, they'll tack on charges of escape when they catch up with Sylvester.
The Orange County Corrections Department (OCCD) says, when Sylvester made a dash from officers at seven Sunday night, it originally appeared he had a getaway waiting. But now they know that not to be the case and believe he probably caught a ride by flagging down a passing motorist.
"At this time, a jail investigation is underway into the escape. We'll look at how the escape occurred. We'll investigate policy and procedures and the physical plan itself," says OCCD spokesperson Allen Moore.
The corrections department says this is the first escape from the facility since 1999.
OCCD also says, it does not appear Sylvester received outside help in his escape, but he could be getting some now.
