Eleven inmates received minor injuries after a fight broke out among them in a cell block at the Harris County, Texas, Jail. Authorities are still investigating what sparked the Wednesday afternoon fight but it could be gang related, said Harris County Sheriff's Department spokesman Capt. Robert Van Pelt. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. 'The fight didn't last very long. It was contained quickly. The inmates did not resist the deputies,' Van Pelt said. Eight of the inmates were treated at a jail clinic while three others were taken to a local hospital. No deputies were injured and no weapons were used by the inmates. Two of the inmates that were hospitalized were released while one continued receiving treatment Thursday for non-life threatening injuries, he said. Van Pelt described the majority of injuries as being cuts and bruises. |
