| Employees sue Ala. county corrections director |

Three employees in the Tuscaloosa County, Ala., Community Corrections office filed a sexual harassment lawsuit this week against the office's director, Louis Daniel Boisot. The suit filed in U.S. District Court in Birmingham by Cheryl Skelton, Ramona Nelson and Comenecia James follows a suit Boisot filed against the women and Skelton's husband, Billy Skelton, in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court last week. In their suit, Cheryl Skelton, responsible for corrections' electronic monitoring; Nelson, community services supervisor; and James, a court referral officer, all allege that they have been subjected to unwanted sexual advances made by Boisot. The suit says that they refused the alleged advances and that Boisot retaliated by threatening to transfer or terminate them. Boisot's suit claims Nelson, James and the Skeltons have injured his personal and professional reputation by spreading false statements accusing him of sexual harassment and 'moral delinquency.' The women's lawsuit alleges that they lodged complaints with the county about Boisot and that the county subsequently investigated but otherwise failed to respond. The county is named as a defendant in the suit. The women's lawsuit, filed Monday, also claims Boisot filed his suit to harass and intimidate them. Both suits seek compensatory and punitive damages. The women ask the court to order the county to put an end to what they call a sexually hostile environment at Tuscaloosa County Community Corrections. Boisot said he had no comment and referred calls to County Attorney Robert Spence, who did not return two phone calls seeking comment. The women claim that Boisot locked Nelson in his office with him and harassed and assaulted her while Skelton beat on the door trying to get him to open up. The suit claims that Nelson eventually was 'able to break away from Boisot and to leave his office.' But Boisot alleges in his lawsuit that the women began a campaign to intentionally injure his reputation in May. Boisot is director of community corrections in Tuscaloosa, and the women are working in the same positions they held when the allegations surfaced, said Tuscaloosa lawyer Joel Sogol, one of the attorneys representing the women. |
