A Vermont correctional officer was arrested Monday after he took a bribe to smuggle hypodermic needles and illegal drugs into the Caledonia County work camp, police said. Chris Baptie, 21, of Springfield, was charged with bribery and cited to appear in court next month after accepting $300 cash, the needles and what he believed was morphine sulfate from an undercover trooper, police said. The needles and drugs were to have been delivered to an inmate at the work camp. The arrest took place in the parking lot of a hotel not far from the jail. The arrest capped a four-week investigation into the case, police said. |
