A Florida prison inmate pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman more than a decade ago and was sentenced to a 10-year prison term. Investigators used technology not available when the May 22, 1990, assault occurred and matched Billy D. Dukes' fingerprints to prints left behind in the woman's car. The victim then picked Dukes out of a police lineup. Dukes, 45, pleaded guilty Wednesday. 'She's very happy this case has come to this resolution,' said Assistant State Attorney Colleen Taylor. The woman told authorities that she was abducted from a DeLand car wash and forced to drive to a wildlife refuge. She was then sexually assaulted and forced to drive back to the car wash, then her attacker ran off. Dukes was convicted of attacking a Holly Hill woman that same year. He was scheduled to be released from the Gulf Correctional Institution in the Panhandle in 2008, but the 10-year, concurrent sentence will likely keep him in prison until 2012, Taylor said. |
