A 36-year-old Kentucky man was arrested in Wisconsin four days after he escaped from the custody of a Kentucky jailer. Billy Jo Rucker, of Munfordville, Ky., was arrested Friday and charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and other narcotics, eluding police and a fugitive of justice, Kentucky State Police said. Rucker was lodged in the Milwaukee County Jail in Oak Creek, Wis. He is awaiting extradition back to Kentucky, Larue County Jailer Ralph Trumbo said Monday. Rucker had been serving time in the Larue County Jail for a fourth DUI conviction and carrying a concealed weapon. He had nearly a year left to serve, Trumbo said. On Dec. 30, a deputy jailer allowed Rucker to test-drive a vehicle his father was selling. Rucker was shopping for a car for his mother. The deputy jailer left the keys in the ignition while he stopped at a Rite Aid Pharmacy to use the restroom. Rucker then took off in the car, police said. Rucker was arrested at 3:30 CST on Friday by Oak Creek police. 'I take him to the doctor for his appointments sometimes, he was needing a car for his mother so we agreed to take him. Probably shouldn't have done that,' Trumbo said Monday. 'It was a mistake we made.' |
