Warren County (Ky.) Regional Jail inmates can now appeal their treatment at the jail to a level higher than the county jailer. County magistrates approved a policy change Jan. 9 to the jail's policy and procedure manual that was proposed by Jailer Jackie Strode. If inmates are unhappy with how their complaints are handled by Strode, they can appeal his decision to Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon, who will bring the matter to Warren County Fiscal Court. The policy states that inmates can file grievances if they think they've been victims of "abuse, harassment, abridgment of civil rights, or denied privileges specified in the posted rules." Grievances must be written statements given immediately after the incident and sent to the jailer or chief deputies. "This grievance procedure is only while they are in our custody at the Warren County jail," Strode said. Any complaints made after that must be in the form of a lawsuit. |
