Four alleged Satan's Disciples members beat up a fellow Livingston County jail inmate while trying to collect money for their gang, authorities said Tuesday.
Robert Bennett, 19, Jonathan Jackson, 20, Jacob Roach, 17 and Michael Wyman, 17, all of Pontiac, allegedly hit and kicked the man on his body, head and face on Jan. 28 at the jail in Pontiac.
The victim, who was jailed the same day on criminal sexual abuse charges, was taken to OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac. He was released from the hospital, then posted bond to get out of jail.
Livingston County Sheriff Bob McCarty sad he is 'deeply concerned' over the increase in gang activity in the county. Jail workers and sheriff's detectives are investigating the beating.
Bond for Bennett, Jackson, Roach and Wyman has been set at $10,000 cash for each.
Prior to the fight, Bennett was jailed on drug-related charges while Jackson and Wyman had been in custody on vandalism charges. Roach was in custody for violating his probation.
In addition to setting bond Monday, a Livingston County judge appointed attorneys for the four men.
The next court date for Jackson is Feb. 7. Bennett is expected back in court Feb. 19. A court date of Feb. 24 was set for Wyman and Roach is set for a Feb. 28 court appearance.
