Correction Department officials have placed a women's prison worker on paid leave while they investigate allegations that he sexually assaulted an inmate. Raul Laffitte, 48, of New Haven, a food service supervisor at York Correctional Institution in East Lyme, will remain on leave pending the outcome of the probe. The incident reportedly occurred Feb. 12 at the state's only prison for women. It was reported two days later and referred to state police. Christina Polce, a Correction Department spokeswoman, declined to comment on the specifics of the allegations, citing the ongoing criminal investigation. A source familiar with the allegations told The Hartford Courant that the female inmate said she was in the food preparation alone with Laffitte, a 12-year veteran of the department, when the incident happened. The woman reportedly was treated for bruises on her lower torso. |
