Lycoming County (Pa.) Prison authorities say assault charges are pending against two inmates following a disturbance last week that left six corrections officers injured. Warden David A. Desmond said the scuffle happened at about 11 a.m. last Monday in one of the prison's 15 day rooms, where inmates eat meals and watch television. One inmate, a 28-year-old Philadelphia man being detained by the U.S. Marshal's office, argued with an officer over use of the prison gym, and a scuffle ensued, he said. A second inmate, a 31-year-old Philadelphia man, also took part, he said. Six officers sustained minor injuries before pepper spray was used to end the disturbance, and four of the officers were treated at Williamsport Hospital. All returned to duty later in the afternoon, Desmond said. Desmond declined to release the names of the officers or inmates until charges are filed. |
