Authorities say it appears Randy Glover committed suicide by hanging himself in a jail cell last Tuesday afternoon in Washington County, Iowa.
After walking out of the Clark County jail on Sunday night Glover and Philip Graber stole a vehicle and drove to Washington, Iowa.
Police tracked the men to a house, which is rented by a friend of Glover.
The two escapees were hiding in the attic.
A few hours after Glover was arrested jailers found him hanging from a noose he had made with a bath towel in his cell.
They then tried to resuscitate him.
"We kept CPR up and I think we got him to Washington County Hospital. He was taken back to Iowa City and I think about 10:00 that night then we were notified that he was taken off life support," said Washington County Sheriff Yale Jarvis.
Sheriff Jarvis says jailers check on inmates every 15 minutes and a jailer had just checked on him a few minutes before he was found hanging.
Philip Graber was also hurt while police tried to take him into custody. He had climbed onto the roof of the house he was hiding in, but he fell off and broke an arm and a leg.
