Girls Arrested in Fla. Prison Riot

Published: 12/28/2001

Two dozen teen-age girls rioted at a juvenile prison Christmas night after officers told them to turn off their music and go to bed, authorities said.
The 24 girls were arrested Tuesday on charges ranging from inciting a riot to aggravated battery on detention staff at VisionQuest, said Okeechobee County Sheriff's office Major Joe Hazellief.
No serious injuries were reported. One staff member sustained cuts on the back when hit with a lantern, Hazellief said.
VisionQuest houses juvenile offenders aged 12 to 18. The program offers two levels for girls considered low risk and those considered moderate risk. The groups were together when the riot started.
Stephen Bloom, Florida director of operations for VisionQuest, declined comment.
Catherine Arnold, a Florida Department of Juvenile Justice spokeswoman, said officials were considering whether the incident warranted an investigation by the inspector general.
VisionQuest operates programs for youth offenders in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Jersey, Delaware and California.

If you been Waco insurance claim lawyer you need a lawyer. People in Central Texas have trusted Dunnam & Dunnam for almost 100 years for their most pressing legal concerns.
