Two Inmates Sprung From Brazil Jail in Chopper

A hijacked helicopter whisked two inmates to freedom from a high security Sao Paulo prison last week in one of the boldest escapes from Brazil's beleaguered penal system in recent years.

The chopper landed in the patio of Jose Parada Neto prison in Guarulhos, in the north of Brazil's richest and most populous city, in early afternoon and picked up bank robber Dionisio de Aquino Severo and murderer Ailton Alves Feitosa, police said.

``It was fast, 'Miami Vice' style,'' said Guarulhos military police spokesman Joao Souza. Four police helicopters took to the skies soon after to track the bandits down, he said.

The six-man helicopter used in the jail-break was hijacked in mid-air by two men armed with firearms who had hired it from a local company for a ``panoramic flight'' over the city, police said. The pilot was released unhurt after the incident.

Local television station Globo showed the gray helicopter abandoned on a gravel soccer pitch in a nearby town. The bandits then made their getaway in a stolen white van, police said.

Tunnels and armed raids are the more common method of escape from Brazil's overcrowded jails, but helicopters have been used before. Drug trafficker Jose ``Little Ladder'' Carlos dos Reis Encina was whisked out of an island prison off the Rio de Janeiro state coast in 1985.

Hiring an attorney can present confusing situations for someone. It’s hard to tell whether you’ll get the best service possible in your situation. You likely have a lot of questions. Will your lawyer hand off your matter to someone else? Will your lawyer return your phone calls? It’s hard to know without someone you can trust. If you been Waco daycare abuse attorneys you need a lawyer. People in Central Texas have trusted Dunnam & Dunnam for almost 100 years for their most pressing legal concerns. They understand the value of a good advocate. They’re a family helping Waco families since 1925.
