Federal prosecutors busted a Brooklyn prison officer yesterday for allegedly raping a female inmate at the federal jail in Sunset Park. Bureau of Prisons Lt. Randy Denjen, 38, of Brooklyn, was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in Brooklyn Federal Court before Magistrate Cheryl Pollak. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicolas Bourtin asked Pollak to jail Denjen because of the 'very serious nature of the charges and the overwhelming evidence, including DNA, that the defendant sexually abused a person in federal detention.' A complaint filed by FBI agent Peter Kohn charges that Denjen forced a 23-year-old British inmate at the Metropolitan Detention Center to have sex with him in an isolation cell Nov. 25. DNA tests of semen found on the victim matched a blood sample provided by Denjen, the complaint said. Denjen faces up to life in prison if convicted of the top count in the complaint: causing a person to have sex in a federal prison by use of force. The inmate had pleaded guilty in September to attempting to smuggle the club drug Ecstasy and was awaiting sentencing. |
