Florida Inmate Let Go By Mistake, Back in Jail
By Orlando Sentinel
Published: 03/04/2002

A week after he was mistakenly released from the Seminole County Jail, a man facing a new trial on charges of trying to kill his wife and state prison time for setting fire to her house was tracked to a Longwood motel.
Seminole County deputy sheriffs took Gilberto Roman into custody without resistance about 6:30 p.m. 'We got several good tips, but it was good detective work that led us to the motel,' Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger said.
Roman spent the first two nights after his mistaken release at a hotel in Fern Park. He had been staying at a Longwood hotel since Feb. 16.
Tuesday morning, Roman got a drivers license in Sanford and bought a Mercury Marquis on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando.
Authorities had been looking for that car when they found one matching its description and with a temporary tag parked at the hotel.
Authorities said Roman knew they were looking for him because they found a copy of Thursday's Orlando Sentinel story about him in the hotel room.
It wasn't clear whether Roman would face any additional charges. 'That will be up to prosecutors,' Eslinger said.
Roman, 47, was released from the jail Feb. 14 when workers misinterpreted paperwork and thought he no longer had any time to serve.

Hiring an attorney can present confusing situations for someone. It’s hard to tell whether you’ll get the best service possible in your situation. You likely have a lot of questions. Will your lawyer hand off your matter to someone else? Will your lawyer return your phone calls? It’s hard to know without someone you can trust. If you been hurt in a rear end collision you need a lawyer. People in Central Texas have trusted Dunnam & Dunnam for almost 100 years for their most pressing legal concerns. They understand the value of a good advocate. They’re a family helping Waco families since 1925.
