Law officers Thursday night captured a third Logan County jail escapee, leaving only one escapee loose, authorities said. Timothy Glenn Garner, 20, of Guthrie, who escaped Wednesday with three other inmates, was caught by officers about 7 p.m. as he tried to meet a woman in eastern Oklahoma County, Logan County Sheriff Randy Richardson said. Phillip Dean Hancock, 38, of Guthrie was still being sought, Richardson said. Dedrick Max Bloss, 22, and Tanner Michael James, 22, were arrested Wednesday night by Enid police after a standoff at an apartment complex. Bloss and James, both of Enid, along with Garner and Hancock are charged with escape from custody in Logan County District Court. Law officers, including members of a U.S. marshal's office fugitive task force and the district attorney's task force for Payne and Logan counties arrested Garner as he was walking along a road. He was trying to meet a woman whose name was not released, authorities said. 'We received information that a female friend had picked him up and had taken him places and dropped him off,' Richardson said. 'We don't know what he was doing or where he was going from there.' Authorities took Garner to a hospital for cuts he suffered when he climbed over a 10-foot fence topped with razor wire outside the jail. He was treated and was returned Thursday night to the Logan County jail. Authorities were checking other leads about Hancock's whereabouts, he said. Meanwhile, Dennis Charles Swanson, 24, of Guthrie was charged Thursday with attempting to escape. Swanson was in the jail for obtaining merchandise by stolen check, knowingly concealing stolen property and driving under suspension. Swanson tried to escape with the others but could not fit through an air duct, said Vince Antonioli, Logan County assistant district attorney. Swanson's bail was set at $100,000. Garner was being held on complaints of domestic dispute and assault and battery on a police officer, Richardson said. Hancock faces drug charges, he said. Hancock will face six years to life in prison for that charge, and Garner will face four years to life, Antonioli said. The four men were discovered missing by jail authorities about 6 a.m. Wednesday, Richardson said. He said they escaped from a barracks-style jail cell by smashing through a ceiling and an inner wall and escaping through an air- conditioning duct. Wednesday's escape was the second from the Logan County jail in the past two years. The air ducts also were used in the last escape in April 2000, officials said. Richardson said bars cover the air- conditioning vents, but once the inmates broke through the ceiling and the inner wall, they were able to get behind the bars. |
