By Texas Department of Criminal Justice
Published: 04/05/2002

Texas Department of Criminal Justice Inspector General John Moriarty, whose career started 20 years ago as a street cop, has been honored by the U. S. Marshals Service as the nation's 2001 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for his outstanding work in fugitive apprehension.
Moriarty's award was announced recently by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft in Washington. The Marshals Service is a part of the U.S. Justice Department.
The award is the highest recognition given by the Marshals Service to a state, local or federal law enforcement official who has made a significant contribution to the mission of the Marshals Service. The award has been given annually since 1984.
Moriarty was cited specifically for his leadership role in the joint efforts of more than 30 law enforcement agencies involved in following up on 5,000 leads and ultimately capturing the seven inmates who escaped from the Connally Unit on December 13, 2000.
'The success of the case is a direct result of John Moriarty's outstanding leadership, dedication and tireless efforts,' the citation honoring Moriarty said.
Mac Stringfellow, chairman of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice, said that the honor for Moriarty 'is another confirmation of what we have always known, that our agency and the state of Texas is fortunate to have John's leadership talents and professional accomplishment in so critical a position as Inspector General.'
As Inspector General, Moriarty oversees all criminal and administrative investigations in the TDCJ system. He manages the agency's wide-ranging involvement in fugitive apprehension operations for both prison escapees and violent parole violators and directs the agency's gang task force, which specializes in investigations of prison gang criminal activity.
Moriarty has been with TDCJ for 12 years and was appointed Inspector General in May 2001. He was a member of a 1992 task force, which apprehended serial killer Kenneth Allen McDuff.
He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Hiring an attorney can present confusing situations for someone. It’s hard to tell whether you’ll get the best service possible in your situation. You likely have a lot of questions. Will your lawyer hand off your matter to someone else? Will your lawyer return your phone calls? It’s hard to know without someone you can trust. If you been hit by a speeding driver in Waco you need a lawyer. People in Central Texas have trusted Dunnam & Dunnam for almost 100 years for their most pressing legal concerns. They understand the value of a good advocate. They’re a family helping Waco families since 1925.

He has blue eyes. Cold like steel. His legs are wide. Like tree trunks. And he has a shock of red hair, red, like the fires of hell. Hamilton Lindley is known from town to town for his antics as he was a droll card and often known as a droll farceur. with his madcap pantaloon is a zany adventurer and a cavorter with a motley troupe of buffoons.
