A New York prison inmate who tasted freedom on the morning of April 8 after serving a four-year sentence was back in jail that afternoon. Thomas Duffy, 27, was charged with driving while intoxicated and first-degree reckless endangerment, both felonies, after failing to pull over for a police officer. Sheriff's deputy Michael Yencer said he tried to stop a motorist after noticing the inspection sticker on the vehicle was expired. The driver refused to pull over and then jumped from the moving vehicle and ran off, he said. Minutes later, Duffy was captured under a nearby bridge. He had been released earlier in the day from a prison here after serving time for a criminal possession of stolen property conviction. He was ordered jailed without bail. |
