A former federal prison officer has been sentenced to up to 27 months in prison for helping a convicted New York mobster smuggle his semen out of prison to impregnate his wife. Troy Kemmerer, who was sentenced recently pleaded guilty last year to charges of bribery and conspiracy. He is the fourth person to be sentenced in the scheme, which included the prisoner, his wife, and a go-between. Kemmerer was a prison officer at Allenwood Federal Prison in northcentral Pennsylvania. Prosecutors say he accepted payments of $200 to $300 per trip for at least three trips to smuggle out the sperm of mobster Antonino Parlavecchio. Parlavecchio's wife, Maria, did not get pregnant. She is serving a year of probation. Her husband had six months added to his racketeering sentence and is due for release in September 2004. |
