Alleged Canadian Escapee Found Hiding in Prison

A convicted murderer thought to have escaped from a Canadian prison in March was found hiding inside a ventilation duct in a workshop.
A police tracking dog detected Raymond Tudor's hiding place Thursday at the medium-security Drumheller Institution in Alberta, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cpl. Bill Hamilton said Friday.
'Shortly after entering the room, I knew (the dog) had picked up something,' Hamilton said. 'He was over in one corner trying to scale the walls and I was satisfied he (Tudor) was up above him somewhere.
The dog was basically trying to climb the walls to get to him.'
Tudor, 48, was serving life sentences for two murders when he disappeared on March 26, prompting a nationwide search and warnings throughout North America.
The lack of any sightings or evidence that security had been breached caused authorities to suspect was hiding in the medium-security prison 80 miles northeast of Calgary.
Prison spokeswoman Darlene Haines said an officer thought he saw Tudor in the dark workshop on Tuesday, prompting intensive searches by two emergency response teams and a lockdown of the prison.
Other prisoners may have been feeding Tudor during his time in hiding, but the lockdown would have cut that supply, Haines said.
