A murder defendant who escaped in New York three weeks ago while being transported from court to prison has been captured in Virginia, authorities said.
Kevin Saxon, 33, surrendered before dawn Wednesday at a home in Yorktown. Investigators tracked him down by tracing calls he placed from Alexandria and Yorktown.
Saxon escaped May 2 as he was being taken from a Manhattan court to a correctional facility in Valhalla, N.Y. He fled from the back seat of a car while it was stopped in rush hour traffic.
Saxon has an extensive criminal record, police said.
An indictment last year identified him as the leader of a Harlem drug gang, the Lincoln Crew, and he and 11 other alleged gang members were charged with murder, intimidating witnesses, drug dealing and other crimes. If convicted, he could face 120 years to life in prison.
