An inmate in the Arlington jail died last week after a fight with his jailers, police said.
Arlington police are investigating the incident and awaiting autopsy and toxicology results.
Sylvester Terrell Hayes, 24, was being escorted from an interview room to a private cell about 10:30 a.m. when he said he felt a pinching sensation on his skin but declined medical attention, police said.
Hayes then started swinging and hit four jailers who tried to subdue him, police said. The employees were treated for minor injuries.
After Hayes was placed in a restraint chair and wheeled to an observation room, an ambulance was called because of his medical complaint and sudden outburst, police said.
The jail supervisor thought Hayes was going into cardiac arrest and had him removed from the restraint chair, police said. A jailer began using a defibrillator on the inmate, who still had a pulse.
Hayes was pronounced dead at Arlington Memorial Hospital.
