Another Inmate Mistakenly Released From Oklahoma Jail

A man accused of lewd acts with a child was recently released from the Oklahoma County Jail by mistake. It was the second time in less than six months an inmate was released by accident.
Robert Bruce Ashley, 56, was mistakenly released after authorities failed to formally charge him in time.
Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane said his office had until June 18 to charge Ashley or let him go.
The charges were filed on June 18 at about 11 a.m., but someone forgot to review the file and Ashley walked out by 6 p.m. that night, Lane said.
'What this means is that the jailer did not check the computer system to see that a charge had indeed been filed, and that they should not release this individual,' Lane said.
In March, inmate Sampson Deshawn Guy was also released by mistake. After that, a new system was put in place that was supposed to keep similar accidents from taking place.
Police are now asking for the public's help in tracking down Ashley, who is an accused child molester.
Lane said there are 'always what ifs' in a situation like this, but said he believes the new system is working better than the old procedures.
'We file between 15,000 and 20,000 cases a year, so the opportunity for someone to slip through the cracks in Oklahoma County, Tulsa County or Timbuktu are always open and available,' he said.
