A man already serving a prison term has been charged with robbing and raping a Macy's employee in a stockroom in 1998 after his DNA matched a sample taken from the crime scene, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau announced recently. Joe Felder, 39, of Brooklyn, is in prison after being convicted of robbing another Macy's stockroom, said Sherry Hunter, a spokeswoman for the district attorney. The new indictment stems from an assault on a Macy's employee at the Herald Square location in January 1998. The female employee was raped and robbed, but she stabbed her assailant with the pin on her identity badge. The assailant bled on a bathrobe, and the DNA sample was obtained from that, the district attorney said. When Felder was imprisoned, he was required to give a DNA sample, Hunter said. That sample led to the indictment. Felder remained in prison and was unavailable for comment. The rape charge against him carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, and the robbery charge has a penalty of 15 years. |
