After fighting citizen participation in the operation of the Bucks County, Pa., Prison for most of the year, the county commissioners took the first step toward yielding some of their authority for running the jail to members of the public. The first meeting of the Bucks County Prison Oversight Board convened at the minimum-security Men's Community Correctional Center in Doylestown Township on last week. The board, which was created by a federal court order, will replace the former Bucks County Prison Advisory Board, which had been slated to meet the same day. Instead, the new board will meet in its place. At this point, membership of the new board won't be much different from that of the old panel. All members of the former advisory board, including the three commissioners, the president judge, controller, district attorney and sheriff, will sit on the oversight board. |
