| Lax Minn. Jailer Blamed for Inmates' Escape |

Le Sueur County, Minnesota Sheriff Dave Gliszinski says a jailer who was supposed to check cells twice per hour failed to do so two weeks ago when a pair of inmates escaped from the county jail. The inmates were allowed several hours to chip away at a cell-room glass block window and flee, Gliszinski said. The pair, jailed for burglary and theft, remain at large. Gliszinski declined to say whether the jailer has been fired or disciplined, and a county personnel official said the county can't comment on the case until it completes its own investigation. Todd Chazen, 23, and Aeron Bush, 27, escaped sometime before 8 a.m. on August 17. Gliszinski said the jailer failed to follow policies governing the type and frequency of cell checks. A car was stolen from a Le Center auto dealer on the night the pair escaped. The car was found later in Dodge County. Inside, authorities found blood that matched Chazen's and paint marks near the steering column and elsewhere inside the car. Gliszinski said the paint matches that from a piece of metal used to chip away at the glass block window. |
