The 36-year-old inmate who escaped from the Orange County (Fla.) Jail Sunday by climbing from an open-air courtyard to a roof and then leaping to the ground was captured in Daytona early Wednesday morning, according to Local 6 News. Members of the Seminole County Fugitive Task Force tracked Ronald J. Sylvester, 36, to a Daytona Beach street corner where officers tried to approach him. Sylvester fled on foot but a Daytona Beach K9 tracked him down and caught him, police said. Sylvester was transported to Halifax Medical Center to receive treatment for dog bites. He will then be taken to the Polk County Corrections Facility in Seminole County, Fla., Local 6 News reported. Sylvester was originally arrested for seven burglaries in Seminole County, Fla. He had been in jail since December on charges of battery, grand theft and burglary, according to Local 6 News. No inmate had escaped from the Orange County Jail since November 1999. |
