Baltimore Man Accused of Rape Kills Self in Jail

Published: 09/16/2002

Officials at Baltimore's Central Booking and Intake Center say a city man in jail on rape charges used his shoelaces to hang himself.
Jeardon Woodridge, 38, of Cleveland Street was found unconscious at about 5 a.m. September 2. Officers freed him, and nurses performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital an hour later.
Woodridge was facing two rape charges and one count of failure to appear in court. He had been held without bail since August 23.
Officials say he had not shown any signs that that would have placed him on a suicide watch, officials said.
