Recreation suspended at prison

Northampton County, Pa., Corrections Director H. James Smith said he has temporarily suspended outdoor recreation for prisoners housed on the third floor of the county prison in Easton following an escape Friday.
Diosdado Davilla-Torres, 37, of N. 21st St., Easton, escaped shortly after 7 p.m. Friday by hopping a wall topped by razor wire that surrounds the outdoor recreation area. He was still missing as of 10 p.m. Saturday. The razor wire was installed in September 2000 following the escape in March of Jose A. Rios Jr. of Bethlehem. He was caught two months later. Smith said prison officials have discovered a weakness in the razor wire perimeter that Davilla-Torres exploited to make his escape and that they hope to fix it so outdoor recreation can be reinstated today.
