| Police Investigate Possible Rape of Utah Prison Inmate |

The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating a 19-year-old prison inmate's claim that she was raped by a prison guard, authorities said Monday. 'We are literally in the middle of investigation,' said Salt Lake County Sgt. Frank Ziebert. Investigators have interviewed the woman and the Department of Corrections officer, but the man denies raping the inmate, he said. Authorities are awaiting test results from the state crime lab, he said. The inmate, who is held in the Timpanogos building of the Utah State Prison, reported to authorities Wednesday that she had been assaulted the night before, said Jack Ford, Corrections spokesman. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave. |
