A corrections officer in the Camden County Jail who had been president of the guards' union for three years pleaded guilty October 1 to forcing a female inmate to perform a sex act. George J. Dobleman, 34, had been a sergeant in the jail at the time of the June 16, 2001, incident. Pleading guilty to official misconduct, Dobleman said he locked himself and the female inmate into a small conference room, where she performed oral sex. Jail policy requires a female guard to accompany female inmates in the presence of male guards. The guilty plea, negotiated between Assistant Camden County Prosecutor Leslie Dicker and defense attorney Mario D'Alfonso, does not include a specific sentence. The presumptive term for the offense is seven years in state prison. As part of the plea, Dobleman forfeited his job as a corrections officer, retroactive to July 3. Superior Court Judge Frank Lario also issued an order barring Dobleman from seeking future public employment. Lario set a Nov. 15 sentencing hearing. In mid-August, Lario had ruled that a statement in which Dobleman admitted the sexual incident had not been coerced and could be used at trial. Dobleman gave that statement to investigators of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office while sitting in a car parked outside his home. |
