Rape Suspect Raped at Rikers
By New York Post
Published: 10/14/2002

An accused rapist, awaiting trial for a notorious attack on a college student, was himself the victim of a sexual assault when fellow prisoners at Rikers Island brutally attacked him in his cell, sources said.
The prisoner - a career criminal and reputed member of the Bloods gang - was raped with a can of deodorant on the end of a stick by seven prisoners on Sept. 25, law-enforcement sources said.
The violence began in his cell as the seven attackers beat him severely.
They then dragged him to the shower, where they washed him before taking him back to the cell and assaulting him, sources said.
The man - whose identity is being withheld because he became a rape victim - was so badly injured, he collapsed after staggering to jail guards and reporting what happened.
At Elmhurst Hospital, he underwent surgery for damage to his liver and spleen. Authorities do not know what sparked the attack.
Sources said three correction officers were relegated to desk duty because of their failure to stop the nearly 25-minute-long assault. No inmates have yet been charged.
